Council Vacancy – Rhos Ward

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that 1 vacancy has occurred in the office of Councillor for the above mentioned Community/Ward, and the Community Council intends to co-opt.

Expressions of interest are being sought from members of the public who meet the following qualifications and are interested in representing their community on the aforementioned Community Council. You must be a British, Commonwealth, Irish or a European Union citizen and be 18 years of age or over; and meet at least one of the follow criteria:*

  • registered as a local government elector for the area named above; or
  • during the whole of the last 12 months occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises in the community named above; or
  • your principal or only place of work during the last 12 months has been in the community named above; or
  • you have during the whole of the last 12 months resided in the Community or within 4.8 kilometres of it.

If you wish to be considered for co-option for the vacant seat or want more information regarding the role of a Community Councillor please contact the Chair of the Council Community on/at by 16/5/2014

Winners of the Bay of Colwyn Volunteer of the Year Awards 2014


The Bay of Colwyn Town Council is delighted to announce the winners of the Bay of Colwyn Volunteer of the Year Awards for 2014. The nominations were considered by the Volunteer Awards Committee, which includes representatives from Conwy Voluntary Services Council, Colwyn Bay Civic Society, Colwyn Bay Chamber of Trade/Business Network and Colwyn Bay Horticultural Society, together with three Members of the Town Council. Award recipients were invited to the Town Hall last Monday evening and the winners of each category were presented with a slate plaque and certificate by the Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Perry and Cllr John Davies, Chairman of the Volunteer Awards Committee.

Winners of the Bay of Colwyn Volunteer Awards 2014 are:

  • Adult (25-64 yrs): Mr Ray Dawson
  • Adult (65+): Mr Geoff Powell
  • Young Person (under 25): Mr Ted Simmons
  • Green Volunteer: Mr Steve Lyall
  • Trustee: Mrs Hazel Cleverley

A Highly Commended certificate was also presented to Young Volunteer Hallam Cleverley, by The Mayor, in recognition of his voluntary work for the Dan’s Den charity. Although there were no nominations this year for the Group category, the Town Council is aware that there are many local groups regularly carrying out invaluable voluntary work in our local community. Hopefully we can encourage more nominations for this category for next year’s awards.

The Bay of Colwyn Town Council Grants


The Bay of Colwyn Town Council awards grants each year to Voluntary, Not-for-Profit and Charitable Clubs and organisations providing services or facilities in the Bay of Colwyn area.  Recipients of large grants (of over £500) for the 2014/15 financial year were presented with cheques by the Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Perry at a special Awards Evening in April.  Grants totalling £27,379 have been awarded by the Town Council this year, to the following organisations:

Colwyn Bay Town Management – match funding for BID project
Benefit Advice Shop – access to advice for clients from Colwyn Bay area
Carers’ Outreach Service – rental of offices in Colwyn Bay
Colwyn Bay Ukulele Group – one day event in Colwyn Bay
Cor Meibion Colwyn – new staging and concert costs
Cruse Bereavement Care – office costs in Colwyn Bay
Dyffryn ABC Boxing Club – training equipment
Home Start Conwy – supporting families from Colwyn Bay
N W Deaf Association – providing support and information
Llandudno & Colwyn Tramway Society – restoration and maintenance of Tram no7
Old Colwyn Environment Federation – Refurbishment work in Fairy Glen
Victim Support – running courses for volunteers
Old Colwyn Community Centre – redecoration and carpets

Additional funding has also been awarded by the Town Council to support the following major events in 2014: Colwyn Bay 1940’s Festival, Prom Xtra and Access all Eirias.

Colwyn Bay Forties Festival

420694_236908886404421_1733947733_nThe Colwyn Bay Forties Festival will be held on 12th and 13th of April (this weekend), 10am – 4pm on Saturday and 11am – 4pm on Sunday.

It’s a fantastic event and we encourage all the locals to come along!

The Forties Festival is organised by Bay of Colwyn Business Network and is one of Colwyn Bay’s most popular festivals.

The festival celebrates Colwyn Bay’s role during WWII as a headquarters for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
