Forties Festival Brings Economic Benefit of £249,000

A report recently released by Conwy CBC shows that the Forties Festival which took place on 12th and 13th April in Colwyn Bay brought an estimated economic benefit of £249,000 to the area. The event, supported by the Town Council, took place over two days and brought a large number of visitors into the town centre. Please click here to view the evaluation report.

Sir John Henry Morris Jones Trust

On Tuesday 10th June, the Mayor of the Bay of Colwyn, Cllr Mrs Val Smith, was delighted to be invited to present grants, on behalf of the Trustees of the Sir John Henry Morris Jones Trust, to ten talented young people from the Colwyn area. These young people have shown outstanding ability during the past 12 months, demonstrating to the Trustees that they have the potential to reach the top in their respective fields.

The recipients of awards from the Trust this year are:- Aled Bysouth (Hockey), Olivia Davies (Swimming), Ben Francis (Wheelchair Basketball),  Alex Harvey (Cycling), Luca Jenks-Gilbert (Hockey), Teresa Ludenbach (Music), Ethan McKean Chan (Hockey), Shamanth Moodalbyle (Badminton), William Sissons (Cricket), Adam Whitlock (Football)

Chairman of the Trustees, Mr Jim Barry, said:

On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to congratulate this year’s award recipients, who the Trustees concluded were all highly motivated young people showing outstanding ability and dedication in their chosen fields. I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who knows of any young people from the Bay of Colwyn area who are able to demonstrate a high level of achievement in the arts, sport or education, to please get in touch with the Town Clerk in Colwyn Bay (tel: 01492 532248) to find out more about how the Trust Fund could help to support them.”

The Mayor, Cllr Mrs Val Smith, added:

It was a privilege to meet these young people and hear of their many achievements during the past year and it is wonderful that a town like Colwyn Bay on the North Wales coast can boast such a wealth of talented young people.”
