Colwyn Counts – Have Your Say

The Bay of Colwyn Town Council invites residents of Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn and Rhos on Sea to its fifth participatory budgeting voting event, to be held at Colwyn Leisure Centre at 6.30pm on Tuesday 20th January.

This time residents are being asked to decide which projects should receive a share of the £12,000 youth funding and £30,000 Welsh Government Vibrant & Viable Places capital community funding available. At the public voting event, each applicant will give a short (3 minute) presentation on their project, with local residents scoring each project on its individual merits. Results will be announced ‘live’ on the night, as the scores are added up.

Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Val Smith, states “Anyone living in the Bay of Colwyn area is encouraged to attend this event and score each of the projects. It is a great way for members of the public to influence public spending decisions, and a good turn-out will really add to the atmosphere of the evening.”

Town Clerk, Tina Earley, added “Participatory budgeting was introduced by the Town Council in 2011, with the support of the Wales PB Unit, in an effort to involve the local community in its decision-making processes. At least one ‘Colwyn Counts’ project has taken place each year since and those participating in the voting events have enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about local projects and have a say in which should receive funding. Please come along and join us next Tuesday evening to have YOUR say.”
