Town Council welcomes Congolese delegation

On the 24th June, a delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo’s UK Embassy were welcomed at the Town Hall by the Mayor and Town Councillors.

The group included the Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Madame Marie-Louise Kafenge Nanga and the Newport-based Congolese journalist, Norbert Mbu-Mputu, who were exploring the history behind the Congo Training Institute at Colwyn Bay, which was established by the Reverend William Hughes in 1885.

Mayor attends Queen’s 90th Birthday at Ysgol Nant y Groes!

On 7th June 2016, the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr John Davies and his wife Mrs Ann Davies, were delighted to attend the Queen’s 90th Birthday Party Celebration at Ysgol Nant y Groes.

They spent a lovely day meeting the ‘Royal Family’ and were well looked after by the children of the school.  The Mayor especially enjoyed judging the cake competition!

Sir John Henry Morris Jones Trust

On Wednesday 1st June, the Mayor of the Bay of Colwyn, Cllr John Davies, presented grants on behalf of the Sir John Henry Morris Ones Trust, to nine talented young people from the Colwyn area.

The recipients of awards from the Trust this year are:

  • Sophie Mae Brown (swimming)
  • Imogen Camp (chess)
  • Liv Davies (swimming)
  • Sam Johnson (triathlon)
  • Moli Jones (athletics)
  • Jack Jones (windsurfing)
  • Ellie New (hockey)
  • Harry Pulford (sailing)
  • William Sissons (cricket)


The Trust was set up in 1975 with a bequest under the terms of the will of Sir John Henry Morris Jones, who was a GP in the town for many years and MP from 1929 – 1950.   Applicants are invited annually by the Trustees from young people under the age of 19, who live in the former Borough of Colwyn area.
