Twinning

The area is twinned with Roissy-en-Brie, a French town 20km, east of Paris and we also have a link of friendship with Barmstedt, a German town near Hamburg.

The Association has been in existence for over 25 years and has formed exchange and cultural links with both towns.  Côr Bro Aled, Llansannan entertained two choirs from Roissy-en-Brie for a week in 2009 and had a very successful visit to Roissy-en-Brie previously.  A group of young dancers from France came to visit Llandrillo College where they performed with local students.  Folk Dancing groups have visited and performed on the Cayley Promenade and outside the Bay-View Centre.

Runners from Roissy-en-Brie and Barmstedt have linked with Abergele Harriers and participated in races in North Wales including the Snowdon Marathon. Members of Abergele Harriers have raced in Marne la Vallee and Provence with athletes from Roissy-en-Brie.  Association Members have enjoyed visits to Christmas Markets in both Roissy-en-Brie and Barmstedt.

In 2011, the 25th anniversary celebrations began over the Easter weekend, when a group of German and French visitors came to stay with families in our area.  A dinner for 100 guests and hosts was held in Abergele on Easter Sunday followed by an excursion to Conwy & Llandudno.  In November, A group from our area spent a weekend in France as guests of the Roissy-en-Brie Twinning Association and in addition to enjoying celebratory dinners and excursions, had the good fortune to visit the Paris Opera House.

French visitors celebrated the May Bank Holiday weekend in 2013 with visits to the Victorian Extravaganza in Llandudno, Erddig Hall and the Pontycsyllte Aqueduct.

We regularly receive guests from both France and Germany and future visits to our twin towns are planned. This is a wonderful way to make new friends.
