The Town Council approved its budget for the 2025/26 financial year at its meeting on 20th January. Despite requests for increased financial support towards the running costs of several Conwy County Borough Council services/assets, including CCTV provision, Rhos Paddling Pool and full cost of retaining the four Public Conveniences along our popular waterfront, which had been under threat of closure, the increase in the annual precept has been kept at just 3%, or £1.33 per annum for a typical Band D property. The total precept to be raised by the Town Council for 2025/26 is £554,650, or £45.67 per annum for an average household. Commenting on the approval of the budget for the new financial year, Cllr Ricki Owen Town Mayor 2024/25 added: “It’s disappointing that the Town Council Precept is increasing by 3% but I am pleased that through careful financial management we have been able to find the additional funding required by the county council to keep the paddling pool and toilets open as well as maintaining our children’s playgrounds and Colwyn Theatre. Some other budgets have had to be trimmed but as unpaid town councillors we strive to achieve a balance between the services and amenities our rate payers want and what they can afford to pay via the Council Tax Precept.”
