26th March 2020 – Coronavirus COVID-19
As we enter a period of unprecedented limitations on our working and personal lives, I take this opportunity to appeal to you, all of our local residents across Old Colwyn, Colwyn Bay, Colwyn Heights and Rhos-on-Sea, to take the right action. Please follow the advice being issued by our government and health officials and limit your family’s contact with others, as far as is possible. If you do need to leave your home, to take exercise or go shopping, please follow the guidelines for the safety of yourselves and others.
I also ask for your help in keeping an eye on your neighbours, who may be elderly or vulnerable and have to entirely self-isolate for their own protection. Please help where you can by offering to collect/drop off shopping or collect prescriptions, whilst taking all necessary precautions. If they do not know you, or you are not able to assist them because you are also self-isolating, please ensure that they are aware that they can call the Single Point of Access Number set up by the Local Authority to ask for any help/support they may need: 01492 575544.
If you are not having to self-isolate and you are willing/able to offer any assistance to your local community, please contact our staff at the Town Hall on 01492 532248 (line is manned Mon-Fri from 9:00am to 4:30pm – please leave a message if we are unable to answer). We will need to collect some basic information and can then forward your details to the relevant people/groups, who can then let you know about any opportunities to assist in your local area. You can also assist by heading the advice to stop panic buying. If we all buy what we need, when we need it, there will be enough for everyone.
Finally, it would be remiss of me not to say a huge thank you to all of our key workers, not least our Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacy Workers, Care Workers, Teachers, Police and others in the Emergency Services and to all the retail staff and delivery drivers that are keeping the supermarkets and local convenience stores open and stocked and delivering items to our doors.
Please try to stay safe and healthy and we will get through this – we are stronger together.
