The Bay of Colwyn Town Council, in partnership with the Andrew Fraser Memorial Clock Trust, is delighted to announce that the replacement town clock will be installed at the bottom of Station Road, Colwyn Bay by Thursday 4th March. An order was placed with the clock manufacturer, Smith of Derby, to produce a replica clock top using elements from the original clock, mounted on a new cast iron pillar in late 2019, but its completion and installation were delayed by the pandemic.
The original clock was presented to the town by Mr & Mrs Stanley Fraser, parents of Andrew Fraser, who sadly died in 1984. The Clock’s Trustees worked hard to raise the £21,868 required to replace the pillar clock, which had unfortunately reached the end of its life.
Grateful thanks are expressed to both the Gwynt y Mor and Rhyl Flats Community Funds for their grant funding and to the Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Colwyn Bay Civic Society, Colwyn BID and members of the public for their donations. The Andrew Fraser Memorial Clock Trust approved the balancing contribution of around £6,500 from the Trust Fund which remains to maintain and repair the clock.
The Chairman of the Trust, Graham Roberts, commented: “We know how much the public have missed the memorial clock and are delighted to see the replacement clock finally being installed. We are extremely grateful to everyone who helped us reach our fundraising target.”
